Tips to Increase Website Ranking and Traffic

Studying the following tips for improving website traffic and rankings is well worth the time and effort. You may also take notes by hand or simply print this document.

Most importantly, create your website with valuable content, products or services. We've all heard that content is king so start believing and using it. It's always a good idea to place your primary and secondary keywords within the first paragraph of your page content and then spread them throughout the rest of the document. Do not exceed the recommended optimal keyword density of 3-5%.

Be sure to do your market research to find the right keywords and phrases that will target your desired customers. Include your keywords in ideal areas of your web page such as the title, meta tags, headers and sub-headings. Keywords which are in bold text like headings and sub-headings help with search engine indexing.

Keeping your site design clean and simple with easy navigation will allow your customers to find what they are looking for. Try not to clutter your site with flashing banners and other advertisements as this will only cause confusion and lost visitors and customers. Too many things to click on will result in the back button being clicked or the big X to close the web browser. If your website sells products, be sure to keep the payment and shipping methods simple so that the customer experience is nice and smooth.

Some marketers will tell you to submit all of your web pages to the search engines. The search engine spiders will find your pages eventually anyway so I tend to disagree. This is optional, about all I do is submit a sitemap to the big three search engines, which does the trick quite nicely. If you do decide to submit your site to search engines, do not use automated services, always submit manually. Automated services a lot of times are scams and the search engines look down on them anyway.

Try to keep up with search engine news, especially anything like algorithm changes that could affect your website rankings. If you have valuable content and stick to the rules, these search engine changes shouldn't affect you. Use online tools and utilities to keep track of how your website is doing. Demonstrate your industry and product or service expertise by writing and submitting articles for your website to the article banks so you are perceived as an expert in your field.

Monitor your competitors and the top ranked websites to see what they are doing right in the way of website design, navigation, content, keywords, etc. Your web hosting company should have reports and logs you can use to see where your customers are coming from. Analyze your visitor location and their incoming sources whether from search engines or links from other sites and the keywords they used to find you. Keep your customers and prospects visit simple and give them lots of stuff to remember you by, such as free reports, coupons, newsletters, etc.

Many people do not have the time or knowledge to effectively maintain and market a website, in this case it's better to let professionals handle it. While seemingly expensive, it's a lot less costly than spending money on a website without sales and no traffic.
Don’t look at your website as a static brochure. Treat it as a dynamic, ever-changing sales tool, just like a real store which your customers take seriously.
